Rules to remember about viruses!
Do you get alot of emails with people warning you of viruses or they say "Don't Open, hard drive will be wiped"? Don't get me wrong, computer viruses are nasty and should be taken seriously but if you just remember to use a little common sense before opening, you should remain out of harm's way.
Never open anything from people you don't know.
Never open anything that asks for passwords, social security numbers or any sensitive information.
Never open any attachments with .exe or .zip file extensions.
Don't click on any links without absolutely knowing where they go.
I have yet to recieve a legitimate email to log into my bank account, Paypal account, credit card or Ebay through a link they post in the email so don't do it. If you recieve an email stating you need to log into any of these accounts, then go directly to the website like you normally would.
Turn on your junk email filter or spam filtering.
These simple rules should protect you from getting 99% of the viruses on the web and always use a good virus software on your computer. Simple but effective ones that I've used are Microsoft's Onecare, AVG Free and Panda Security.
